Hines plants debut on A&E makeover show

8/20/2012

Cable's A&E channel is launching a new show called "Hideous Houses" (which, we assume, will feature before-and-after shots to inspire the audience), and Hines Growers' Bloomtastic! and Patio Tropics! plants will be featured in upcoming episodes.

The new, feel-good home renovation series takes neglected homes in two California neighborhoods and transforms them into showcases. Hines' plants will make their television debut in the "Hideous Houses" episodes airing August 25th and September 15th as part of A & E's Saturday morning programming "The Big Fix".

"We're happy to give back to communities and help improve neighborhoods with beautiful plants that give a much needed facelift," says Joe Gray, senior V.P. for Hines Growers. "Improving distressed properties with landscaping increases property values and lifts spirits."

The show features general contractor and television personality and former host of Clean Sweep, Eric Stromer, and his brother Kurt, along with world-class designer Megan Weaver, who transform interiors and the front and back of each house in just four days - and on a strict budget.

More than 100 Hines' bedding and tropical foliage plants were used in the segments for two southern California homes. New plants like Agapanthus africanus Summer SkyT, Bougainvillea BambinoT and richly colored Hibiscus Bahama BayT created spectacular borders, colorful focal points and eye-catching vertical accents.

The Bloomtastic!T and Patio Tropics!T plants were the perfect solution to the challenges of small spaces and tough conditions. "These plants take the guess-work out of gardening to give home owners greater success with plants," explains Gray.

The plants selected for both houses create striking front and backyards, grow nicely in smaller spaces and containers, and provide abundant color - all season long.
