Moreno to manage NW Shade Trees

1/2/2013

Northwest Shade Trees has named Raúl Moreno as General Manager. He brings more than 20 years of nursery production and sales management experience to the 360-acre specimen tree-growing operation as he assumes responsibilities on January 2, according to Art Anderson, General Manager/Chief Operations Officer of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co.

"We're delighted that someone of Raúl's experience and knowledge is taking the helm of Northwest Shade Trees," Anderson said. "We have worked with him for the past several years as a crop consultant, and we have absolute confidence in his abilities and customer service skills."

Moreno earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture and Nursery Management from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. He then spent nearly three decades employed in the production, sales and management of forest seedling crops in the Pacific Northwest. For the past three years, he has assisted customers of Oregon Vineyard Supply as an Agronomist and Crop Consultant.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Moreno has conducted research, authored and co-authored nursery research papers and presented at numerous nursery conferences. He served as city forester and park board member for the City of Ridgefield, WA, and presently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association.

Northwest Shade Trees was established by family members and employees of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. in 1973. More than 350 species and cultivars of shade, flowering, and coniferous trees are grown and harvested as balled and burlapped (B&B) trees. A customized summer digging program makes the company's unique product line available for digging and and delivery year-round to customers throughout the Western United States and Canada.
