"Locally grown" blooms grace White House


There's a long and storied history of floral arrangements in the White House but today's New York Times has a bit of a different spin. In the past several years, the White House has stressed the importance of healthy and responsible eating habits, a focus of which is the consumption of locally grown foods. So, the logic goes, why not also encourage the display of U.S. grown cut flowers? Makes sense. Under pressure from a number of folks lobbying for homegrown lovelies, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the White House now is featuring an array of blooms from all over - the U.S.
