JF Schmidt's Nancy Buley honored by Arbor Day Foundation

J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. communications director Nancy Buley is the recipient of a 2014 Arbor Day Award in honor of her outstanding contribution to tree planting, conservation and stewardship, the Arbor Day Foundation announced today.

Buley is one of 13 individuals, organizations and companies recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation during the annual Arbor Day Awards. This year's ceremony was held at Lied Lodge & Conference Center, located at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on Saturday, April 26.
Buley received the Frederick Law Olmsted Award in honor of her lifelong commitment to tree planting and conservation at the state level.
Buley is known in the urban forestry community as one who builds and nurtures relationships. She is widely viewed as a highly skilled bridge-builder, helping people come together to work toward a common goal and ensuring a seat at the table for a variety of stakeholders. Nancy is often described as a creative, out-of-the box thinker and facilitator who builds a "big tent" when exploring issues and creatively visioning the future of urban and community forestry.
Named a lifetime honorary member of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2004, Buley is an active member of Garden Writers Association, the Society of Municipal Arborists and the Alliance for Community Trees. A recent graduate of the Municipal Forestry Institute, she serves on the board of directors of the Portland-based Friends of Trees. She directs outreach efforts to these and other green industry organizations on behalf of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., an international leader in the development and introduction of new and improved landscape tree cultivars.
Since 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the inspiring and life-changing work of leading environmental stewards and tree planters through the annual Arbor Day Awards.
Award winners from previous years include the late Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, the United States Forest Service, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Mary Kay, Inc.
