Nicholas Staddon takes ALS challenge

Monrovia's Nicholas Staddon, the company's spokesperson and Director of New Plants, took the ALS Ice Bucket challenge at this year's Farwest Show in Portland, braving the icy waters to call attention to the ALS Association's fight against Lou Gehrig disease.

On Friday, August 22, Staddon took the splash in the Monrovia booth (which was protected by a few layers of plastic sheeting); he then promptly passed along the challenge to Spring Meadow's Tim Wood.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge -- a social media phenomenon -- was started early this month by ALS patient Pete Frates who, at 29 years old, has lived with ALS since 2012. Since the challenge went viral, Ice Bucket donations have reached nearly $80 million.
