AmericanHort Hosting Impact Washington September 12-13
AmericanHort is hosting Impact Washington on September 12-13 in Washington, D.C. at the Westin City Center Hotel. This two-day summit is designed to help attendees better understand the issues facing the industry and help take action. Over the course of two days, participants will hear from elected leaders, their staff, and legislative experts on topics and policy, including immigration, labor, farm bill programs affecting horticulture, tax reform, and other issues critical to the industry. AmericanHort will lead attendees with scheduled meetings on Capitol Hill with elected officials in both the House and Senate to explain our issues and their impact on green industry business success. 

Arborjet’s 2017 “Taking Root” Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications
Arborjet is seeking applicants for its 2017 “Taking Root” Scholarship Program. Now in its fourth year, the scholarship program will award 10 graduating high school seniors each with a $1,000 scholarship to pursue full-time studies in Forestry, Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Entomology, Environmental Science or a related major at an accredited two-year or four-year college. Arborjet is committed to providing the next generation with the financial support needed to allow them to pursue bright careers in the arboriculture industry. 

Aquascape Inc. Celebrates Healthiest Company in America Award
Aquascape announced national recognition as one of the Healthiest Companies in America by Interactive Health. Aquascape is one of 156 companies across the country being recognized for helping employees make significant and sometimes life-saving changes to improve their health. This is the second year Aquascape  has won the award. Aquascape participants in Interactive Health’s wellness program receive a thorough health evaluation to identify risk and learn about their health status. Through a combination of rapid outreach, connection to personal physicians and tailored resources, a personalized course of action is delivered to the participant resulting in improved or maintained health. In addition, Aquascape provides options for employees to improve fitness including an on-site fitness facility, access to personal training services, a spa area and more.

Registration Opens for 2017 ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Los Angeles
Registration is now open for the American Society of Landscape Architects’ (ASLA) 2017 Annual Meeting and EXPO planned for October 20-23 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles. The 2017 theme, “Common Ground,” reflects how landscape architects design common areas—including streets, parks, markets and gardens—where people meet and interact, creating and celebrating community, according to ASLA President Vaughn B. Rinner, FASLA. More than 6,000 attendees are expected, and the meeting will feature a diverse spectrum of industry experts providing perspectives on a wide range of subjects, from sustainable design to active living to best practices and new technologies. More than 130 education sessions, field sessions and workshops will be presented during the meeting, providing attendees with the opportunity to earn up to 21 professional development hours under the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System™ (LA CES™).

North Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association Launches NCGreenprints.com
The North Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association, Inc. has launched a new consumer resource website, NCGreen.com. With instructions for improving outdoor spaces of all sizes, NCGreenprints.com highlights the economic, social and health and wellness benefits of landscaping. NCGreenprints.com was created to provide consumers with a one-stop resource for enhancing their outdoor spaces with locally grown plants. At NCGreenprints.com, users can access “Greenprints,” which are step-by-step project guides that apply to any type of outdoor space. All Greenprints were developed to be easily filtered by various categories, including skill, budget, time and residence type, allowing users to choose a project suited for their specific needs. In an effort to encourage users to visit community nurseries and buy locally grown plants, each Greenprint is printable and mobile-friendly to serve as an aid when shopping for the necessary tools to finish a successful landscaping project.

KIOTI Tractor “Shouts Out” to First Responders through Video Contest
KIOTI Tractor launched their First Responders ‘Shout Out’ social media promotion and video contest. KIOTI is prompting first responder organizations to submit a video via Facebook for a chance to win a KIOTI MECHRON 2200PSKIOTI’s First Responders ‘Shout Out’ honors all first responder groups throughout the United States and Canada. First responders are individuals in the public safety career fields including law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), emergency management and search and rescue. KIOTI Tractor will be thanking first responders on their Facebook page and is encouraging their social media audience to thank their local first responders. Organizations interested in participating must create a video explaining who they are, their location, why they need a MECHRON 2200PS and how it will be used if they win. The video should be under three minutes in length. The promotion is now open for participants to complete an entry form and upload their video to the KIOTI Tractor Facebook page, under the ‘Shout Out’ tab. One submission will be counted per organization. 

Western Nursery & Landscape Association Announces Summer and Fall 2017 Webinars
WNLA members can participate in 14 upcoming webinars, all provided complimentary to members.  These webinars address important topics on management, new plants, native plants and the new WNLA plants with purpose initiative. WNLA members can also view many previously recorded webinars by logging into wnla.org with their membership credentials.  Non-members are invited to join the following webinars for $50 per webinar – or join WNLA for $75 and take advantage of all 14 webinars. Legislative Days and Renewal & Remembrance
Legislative Days are July 16-18 this year. Add your voice to strengthen the industry during NALP’s 2017 Legislative Days on the Hill. Renewal & Remembrance will be held July 17, 2017. Help NALP honor America’s veterans during this nationally recognized day of service. Each year, hundreds of landscape and lawn care professionals from across the country come to Arlington National Cemetery and spend the day mulching, cabling, and installing lighting protection for trees, pruning, planting, liming and aerating more than 200 acres of sacred ground.
