Horticultural Research Institute Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement
The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring on November 29, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the United States) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
A Message from AmericanHort
In late September, Congress passed and President Obama signed a temporary measure to fund the federal government through December 9. Unfortunately, the temporary measure did not renew the H-2B returning worker exemption. Congress has until December 9 to figure out how to fund the government going forward. In doing so, they have one more opportunity to renew the H-2B returning worker exemption before the peak of landscape applications begin the process just after Christmas. Landscape businesses, growers, garden retailers, landscape distributors, and suppliers will be negatively affected if Congress fails to recognize the unique needs of seasonal industries. Please act now to let your elected representatives know that our industry needs a functional H-2B program.
