Good news! Thank you to all who took the time to contact your Representative in the U.S. House. The Hartzler-Hudson amendment to the federal transportation bill, which is being considered on the House floor this week, sought to block federal funding for landscape and vegetative components of infrastructure projects. It was defeated on the House floor a few moments ago, with 255 voting against, and 172 supporting. So the amendment failed. The fact that it was such a tough battle to fight is a fresh reminder that our industry has a lot of work to do to change public perceptions that landscapes are merely aesthetic enhancements. Rather, well-designed and functioning landscapes purify air and water, provide pollinator habitat, increase property values, and improve human health and well-being.
Again, thanks to all who helped on this important grassroots effort.
