First Two Growers Certified Under SANC Program
McKay Nursery Company and Star Roses and Plants / Conard-Pyle have become the first two facilities to be able to ship plants grown under the Systems Approach to Nursery Certification (SANC) program, an initiative under the guidance of the National Plant Board, AmericanHort, other industry members and the USDA. These facilities will now be able to include the SANC logo with their plant shipments. The logo evidences their meeting stringent growing, training, self-inspection and audit requirements to make their businesses stronger and more resilient against plant pests and diseases, changes in regulations, quarantines and the threat of stop-sales or recalls.
Costa Farms Receives 2016 GWA Media Awards Silver Medal of Achievement
Costa Farms has received the 2016 Media Awards Silver Medal of Achievement for electronic media excellence for its website. The award was presented by GWA: The Association for Garden Communicators. This national award recognizes individuals and companies who achieve the highest levels of talent and professionalism in garden communications.
Biltmore International Rose Trials Competition Set for September 24
An international jury will judge the final round of the 2016 Biltmore International Rose Trials on September 24. They will select winning roses in 12 categories, including the George & Edith Vanderbilt Award for Most Outstanding Rose of the Trials (Best in Show). Each trial lasts two years and a permanent jury judges the roses four times per year. This year’s final round of competition started with 31 entries planted in 2014 from Canada, the United States, France, Ireland, Great Britain and Germany. The international jury will be judging the final round starting at 9 a.m.
America in Bloom Celebrates 15th Anniversary
America in Bloom is celebrating their 15th anniversary at the Symposium & Awards Program Celebration in Arroyo Grande, California from October 6 to 8. AIB is asking the public to consider donating $115 to show support. If anyone donates to the crowdfunding effort by September 15, they will include you in their 15th Anniversary Symposium & Awards Program Celebration brochure and in all related post-Symposium publicity.
