2016 Farwest Show Hosts Networking Event
The 2016 Farwest Show will host a networking event this year for young horticulture professionals under 40. The event, “Emergent: A Group for Growing Professionals”, will take place August 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in VIP Room B. Registration is available here.
Home Nursery Installs New Solar Array System
Home Nursery has announced the installation of a total of 556 kilowatts (KW) solar photovoltaic electric systems at its production farm in Albers, Illinois. The energy output of the system is expected to exceed 740,000 KWh annually and will prevent the production of over 570 tons of CO2 each year. This is approximately equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 60 typical American homes. Each solar panel throughout the system carries a 25-year performance warranty. The estimated electricity cost savings of the project in just the first year is over $57,000.
Heaviland Landscape Management Announces charity: water Partnership
Heaviland Landscape Management has begun a social responsibility initiative to benefit charity: water, a nonprofit organization that provides clean water to people in developing nations. In June, Heaviland began to donate 1 percent of the annualized contracted amount of any new landscape maintenance or construction project.
ASLA Survey Reveals Modest Gains for Landscape Architecture Firms
Landscape architecture firms experienced a mixed range of business conditions during the second quarter of 2016, according to the latest American Society of Landscape Architects’ Business Quarterly survey. Firms reported growth in billable hours and inquiries for new work, yet their plans to hire shrank from the previous quarter. A comparison of survey results with second-quarter numbers from the last four years shows that business conditions remain generally stable as firms head into the third quarter of 2016. The Q2 2016 national survey was fielded July 1 to July 15 with 177 primary firm contacts responding.
