Darwin Perennials Accepts Best New Nursery Stock Plant Introduction Award
Darwin Perennials has accepted the Best New Nursery Stock Plant Introduction Award for the new coreopsis series called UpTick. The award was given at the Four Oaks Trade Show in the United Kingdom in September. The award highlights innovation and excellence in horticulture and is evaluated by an industry panel. UpTick coreopsis features large flowers with distinctive colors and blooms earlier and longer for gardeners to enjoy spring through fall. It is hardy through USDA Zone 5.

SEGreen Conference Scheduled for August
The Southern Nursery Association (SNA) has announced plans for the SEGreen Conference. The conference will be held August 1 to 3 at The Classic Center in Athens, Georgia and will offer tours of local nurseries, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, The Trial Gardens at UGA and a UGA Campus Tour. Other conference features include sessions on plant selection, pest and disease management, business developments, design estimating and installation workshops. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available for industry and pesticide certifications and licensing programs.

New England GROWS Offers Seminars for Hispanic Landscape Professionals
New England GROWS has expanded its programming with a seminar series designed for Spanish-speaking landscape professionals and those who work closely with them. The seminar program is developed in collaboration with the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance (NHLA) and will address topics such as how to manage multi-cultural teams, safety training and leadership development.

Altman Plants Receives Best Hybrid Tea Award
Altman Plants has announced that their Rosarian, Ping Lim, has received an award for his rose, “Double 10”. The rose was awarded the Pauline Merrell Award for Best Hybrid Tea at the 2016 Biltmore International Rose Trials.

Bayer Launches Production Ornamentals Business
Bayer has announced the official launch of the Bayer Production Ornamentals business that serves professional growers in greenhouses and nurseries. The launch of the Bayer Production Ornamentals business means that growers now have access to a comprehensive portfolio of innovative solutions and support, including product and pest management expertise and a team of technical specialists dedicated to solving weed, disease and insect problems.

National Garden Bureau Offers Free Promotional Materials
National Garden Bureau is offering free promotional materials for 2017 “Year of the” programs. For 2017, the crops include:

  • Annuals: Year of the Pansy
  • Vegetables/edibles: Year of the Brassica
  • Perennials: Year of the Rose (In cooperation with the American Rose Society)
  • Bulbs: Year of the Daffodil (In cooperation with the American Daffodil Society)
