Winners Announced from 2016 Annual Flower Trials at Colorado State University
The winners have been announced from the 2016 Annual Flower Trials at Colorado State University. Winners are: Best of Show – Argyranthemum ‘White Butterfly’ from Proven Winners; Best Novelty – Begonia ‘Jurassic™ Red Splash from Ball Ingenuity; Best New Variety – Lantana ‘Lucky™ Red from Ball FloraPlant.
Shinoda Trustees Award Nearly $19,000 in Scholarships
The Shinoda Foundation recognized horticulture’s top students with six scholarships plus grants to colleges and universities totaling nearly $19,000. Students from horticulture programs across the nation can apply for the scholarships, with awards bestowed based on carefully reviewed criteria including academics, work experience, career goals, extracurricular activities and need.
NALP Welcomes Eight New Trailblazers
The National Association of Landscape Professionals announced its newest Trailblazers. Trailblazers are individuals who are nominated by their peers for making significant and long-term contributions to the landscape industry and are committed to giving back to the industry. Each Trailblazer sets aside one day per year to provide on-site mentoring to a NALP member. The new Trailblazers include:

Katie Dubow Named 2016 Emergent Communicator by GWA
Katie Dubow, creative director of Garden Media Group, was presented with the Emergent Communicator Honor by The Association of Garden Communicators (GWA). The Emergent Communicator Honor recognizes a professional under the age of 40 who shows exceptional skills, professional ethics and dedication to the GWA mission and values. Dubow will be one of five to receive GWA Honors at its annual awards banquet.

Bruce Butterfield Passes Away
Bruce Butterfield, researcher for consumer gardening market, passed away on September 5. Butterfield has been the Market Research Director at the National Gardening Association for more than 35 years and is a well-known and respected name in the gardening industry.

The National Association of Realtors and National Association of Landscape Professionals released a new report titled The 2016 Remodeling Impact Report: Outdoor Features. The report shows that not only can outdoor remodeling projects add value to a home on resale, but they can also bring advantages to homeowners planning to stay in their homes in the form of increased happiness.
Two New Perennial Plant Brands Launched in Drive for Market Growth
Perennial Plant Products has announced the launch of a two-brand marketing strategy being developed for their North American and European markets. Must Have Perennials is being designed to provide an integrated marketing vehicle to support breeders, young plant producers, finished plant producers and retailers in bringing new perennials to market. Rozanne and Friends is the new consumer brand, focused on promoting the Must Have Perennials range to the end user through its own website.
