This year, J. Berry Nursery celebrates a decade of business “Discovering & Delivering Great Plants.”

In celebration of their milestone anniversary, J. Berry will make a donation to the Horticultural Research Institute (HRI). The mission of HRI is “To direct, fund, promote and communicate horticultural research, which increases the quality and value of plants, improves the productivity and profitability of the nursery and landscape industry, and protects and enhances the environment.”

The Berry’s credit their success in a crowded market to the agility, ingenuity, and integrity of their staff. “It’s truly a team environment. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our team,” said Jonathan Berry.

While J. Berry started out growing branded plants developed by other companies—a sound financial move that allowed them to quickly build a strong base of operations—their vision since day one was to bring high value plants to the retail market—offering gardeners something different than the commodity options common in the landscape.

They have a head start on their plan for the next decade, to “Create Beauty that Inspires” through new genetics, new packaging and new product formats, starting with their three deepest lines—the Black Diamond® Crapemyrtles, Déjà Bloom® Azaleas and most recently, the Hollywood™ Hibiscus collection of patio or landscape tropical plants.

Jim Berry, President and owner, is a seasoned nurseryman with many accomplishments and has held numerous industry leadership positions. Jonathan Berry is Vice President and co-owner, handling finance and sales management. He studied economics while at Tulane University, was an officer in the US Marine Corps and a Wall Street equity trader before getting into the nursery industry. Recently joining the J. Berry team is Benjamin Berry. He is a horticulture graduate of Auburn University and went to graduate school for International Horticulture in the UK and The Netherlands. Today his talents are used in R&D, production management, and regulatory compliance. Filling out the staff are many hard working and dedicated team members who help drive the business forward.

J. Berry seeks to develop new products that are retail focused in high volume product categories, with domestic and international appeal. Due to their focus on retail, most of the new product development efforts center on flowering products and packaging that are in-line with recognized consumer trends. An example of this would be a new brand launching in 2016 called Deckorations™ which is focused on the ever increasing consumer trend of gardening in containers on decks and patios. Deckorations™ will feature container friendly plants presented in upscale patio planters. New products developed by J. Berry are brought to market through a network of licensed growers across the country and the world. The Black Diamond® Crapemyrtles are currently licensed throughout the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
