Bayer Altus™ Insecticide
Environmental Science announced that Altus™ insecticide will be available for purchase through authorized agents beginning May 1, 2017. Altus introduces a new insect management solution to greenhouse growers that controls major sucking pests while offering flexibility of applications before, during and after bloom. Altus insecticide features crop flexibility for use in greenhouses and nurseries on ornamental plants, compatibility with honey bees, bumble bees and beneficial anthropods, the EPA classified it as Reduced Risk product and there is no application timing restrictions.
HIP Labels Adds New Team Member
HIP Labels has announced the hiring of Tyler Brown to its staff as sales associate. Brown will work on behalf of HIP to develop new accounts and to enhance sales services for existing clients. His primary territory will be the east and south Untied States, though not confined there as opportunity presents.
Richard Salmon Passed Away
Richard A. Salmon “Dick”, 86, passed on April 14 ,2017 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Survived by wife Jeanette and Son Jeffrey; grandchildren Alicia and Michael. Work in horticulture started at Brown Brothers Nurseries in Penfield, NY budding roses at the age of 9. As a Korean War Veteran Richard was honored with a Bronze Star medal, a United Nations medal, and a Korean Service medal. After a brief post war job as Assistant Postmaster in Penfield he returned to the Nursery business at Brookside Nursery as a Landscape Designer where he met Bernard B. Stangler with who he ultimately moved to Amherst, NY and started Arbordale Nurseries in 1968. Designing and Planting over 25,000 homes during his lifetime. Past President and active active in the WNY Nurserymens Association which he held office for many years. In 1983 was honored as “Nurseryman of the Year”. A member of ServiStar now True Value Company since 1985, Richard opened the coop’s prototype Home & Garden Showplace store in 1990. The Small Business Administration awarded Richard 1993 Buffalo District Businessman of the Year.
Project EverGreen Announces 2017 Awareness Week Dates
Project EverGreen announced a trio of awareness week designations intended to raise the profile of each of its valuable programs and increase the understanding of the mission of Project EverGreen.. The observances will spotlight the efforts of the program’s volunteers and the military families, veterans and communities it serves. The week-long celebrations of Project EverGreen’s three flagship programs – GreenCare for Troops™, SnowCare for Troops™ and “Healthy Turf. Healthy Kids.™” will take place during the following weeks in May, July and November, respectively.

The 2017 All-America Selections & National Garden Bureau Summer Summit
All-America Selections and National Garden Bureau are hosting a joint summer meeting for the home garden industry. They are traveling to Rochester, New York for the meeting then have the option to travel to the Finger Lakes region to join Home Garden Seed Association for their annual meeting. The meeting will be held September 5-8.
