HRI Now Accepting Scholarship Applications
Scholarships totaling $18,500 for the 2017-2018 school year are made possible by seven special HRI endowment funds that aid students who are seeking a lifelong career in horticulture. HRI and its member firms consider graduating students in horticulture to be the lifeblood of the green industry. The scholarship application and prerequisite information are available on the Horticultural Research Institute website.
NextGen Steps in at The Southern Plant Conference
The Southern Nursery Association (SNA) has announced that Dr. Richard Olsen, U.S. National Arboretum Director, and Dr. Thomas Molnar, Rutgers University Associate Professor, will take the lead with The Southern Plant Conference for 2018 as chair and co-chair, respectively. Olsen and Molnar follow in the footsteps of Dr. Michael Dirr and Don Shadow.
IR-4 Ornamental Horticulture Program Survey
The 40th anniversary of the IR-4 Ornamental Horticulture Workshop is this fall and they need help to gather information about what is most important for IR-4 to study over the next two years. The research is geared towards developing efficacy and crop safety data to support new and expanded registrations of biological and chemical tools to manage diseases, pests, and weeds. The annual budget is approximately $1 million split between funding from USDA-NIFA and USDA-ARS. Participate in the survey here.
