GGIA Announces Complete Wintergreen Itinerary and Opening of Online Registration
The Georgia Green Industry Association’s Wintergreen Horticultural Trade Show and Conference will be held Jan. 25-27 at the Infinite Energy Forum (Formerly the Gwinnett Center) in Duluth, Georgia. A new outdoor equipment will also debut at Wintergreen 2017 allowing attendees to demo mowers, skid-steers and other machines for the trade. The expanded selection of education tracts feature classes on landscapes design, new plants, industry trends, pruning, pest and disease treatments, irrigation technology, invasive plants, horticultural research and much more. Many classes offer CEU’s for pesticide applicators, irrigation contractors and arborists. All sessions are taught by recognized leaders from the industry and experts from UGA’s Cooperative Extension Service.
The Invincibelle Spirit Campaign Nears $1 Million Raised for Breast Cancer Research
The Invincibelle Spirit Campaign has raised over $973,000 for breast cancer research and will surpass the $1 million dollar benchmark in the coming year. Since 2009, the campaign has supported the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by donating one dollar for every Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea sold and through Pink Day fundraisers hosted by independent garden centers. Proven Winners ColorChoice selected the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) because it is the highest rated breast cancer organization in the U.S. with an A+ rating from Charity Watch and 4 out of 4 stars from Charity Navigator.
$18,000 in Scholarships Available to Southeast Hort Students
The Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund has announced it is now accepting scholarship applications for 2017. Industry members are asked to advise all eligible students of the availability of this scholarship award and horticultural students who are eligible are encouraged to apply for this year’s scholarship awards. Eligibility requirements and the application is available on the fund’s website. The deadline for application is May 26. The Scholarship Selection Committee will make final selections by July 7 and recipients will be notified soon thereafter. Twelve $1,500 scholarships will be awarded on August 2 in Athens, Georgia, during the SEGreen Conference.
