Walla Walla Nursery Wins Farwest 2017 Best In Show Booth Award
Walla Walla Nursery Co. Inc captured the coveted Ted Van Even Best in Show booth award at the 2017 Farwest Show. The nursery won for its rich, plant-festooned booth that surrounds visitors in plant-covered walls. It also features a train set that winds its way around plant-covered tables, “delivering” sedums to market. Walla Walla Nursery also captured a Best of Division award for Best Island Booth, Grower.
Vote For Your Favorite Therapeutic Garden
National Garden Bureau and Sakata Seed America, in an ongoing effort to raise awareness of horticulture and support the benefits of gardening, will grant $5,000 this fall to be split among three therapeutic gardens in North America. The top vote-getter will receive $3,000, second and third place will receive $1,000 each. Voting ends September 15, 2017. One vote per IP address.
UConn Native Plants and Pollinators Conference
This conference will take place October 19 at the UConn Student Union Ballroom in Storrs, CT. Registration is available online. Early registration is $50 by September 8 and $60 after September 8.
Mesa De Maya Southwest Oak Captures Judges’ Honors at 2017 Farwest Show New Varieties Showcase
An expert panel of judges selected Mesa de Maya Southwest Oak (Quercus x undulate ‘Mesa de Maya’) as the Best in Show winner at the 2017 Farwest Show New Varieties Showcase. Mesa de Maya was just one out of 40 outstanding new selections that were displayed at the Farwest 2017 and available from at least one show exhibitor. The show was held August 23–25, 2017 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
McDonald’s USA Named National Sponsor of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup
Keep America Beautiful announced McDonald’s has become a National Sponsor of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup (GAC), the largest year-round community improvement program in the country. Efforts will get underway on Sept. 9, 2017 with National Planting Day, a fall initiative of the GAC. McDonald’s is the exclusive Presenting Sponsor of National Planting Day. National Planting Day kicks off the fall planting season for Keep America Beautiful’s network of more than 600 state and community-based Affiliates and other local partners with events taking place through October. The annual initiative celebrates the critical nature of native plants and trees in enhancing biodiversity, rebuilding ecosystems and supporting pollinator health
